There are so many magazines in constant need of quality writing from freelance writers. As part of my weekly effort to send you paid writing opportunities, here is a collection of 10 magazines that pay writers $250 or more.<\/p>\n
Some of these magazines pay less for some articles, but all of them pay $250 for at least some of the writing they publish.<\/p>\n
1. Grays Sporting Journal <\/strong>is a hunting and outdoor sports magazine. Think fly fishing, duck hunting, big game hunting, etc. They publish stories, essays, poetry, and travel writing. Popular Woodworking <\/strong>is the magazine for the craft of fine woodworking. They publish essays, ‘tricks of the trade’, and features about woodworking projects. Spin\u2022Off <\/strong>is a quarterly magazine devoted to handspinning yarns and fibers. They accept articles in a variety of categories including spinning tips, basics, travel, dyes, essays, and tools. Italian America <\/strong>is the magazine for people of Italian heritage in the United States. They want “intriguing stories about Italian Americans that may involve such themes as history, travel, culture\/heritage, achievements, contributions, and social issues.” Features are 800-1,100 words. Canoeroots<\/strong> is a magazine all about canoes, “from bow to stern.” They publish 3 issues annually. They’re open to “well-written epics, cultural adventures, environmental dilemmas, personality profiles on important paddlers either historic or contemporary, humor, fiction and more.” They pay up to $0.20 a word. They cover travel, hunting stories, firearms, tackle, techniques, and more. According to our research, they are known to pay $300 to $700 per article. They are “devoted exclusively to the design, building, care, preservation, and use of wooden boats, both commercial and pleasure, old and new, sail and power.” For features, they pay $250-$300 per 1,000 words.
