If you want even more opportunities like this, be sure to sign up for our email list.<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong>Bee Culture <\/strong>is the magazine of American beekeeping. They cover &#8220;cover beekeeping \u2013 its history, how-to-do everything beekeeping covers, equipment used and made, and even the humorous side of this craft.&#8221; They also want articles on topics related to bees \u2013 pesticides, predators, diseases, wildlife, and &#8220;all the creatures that bees affect and interact with.&#8221; Articles are 30%-50% freelance. They pay $150-$200 for articles 1500-200 words. They encourage queries first. They have a huge readership. Expect excellent pay, but still competition for publication. Their writer&#8217;s guidelines list 8 departments open to submission. Queries are accepted via mail. To learn more, read their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.essence.com\/about\/writers-guidelines\">submission guidelines.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>History Magazine <\/strong>provides &#8220;interesting and thought-provoking accounts of key events in global history.&#8221; They are focused on publishing accessible, entertaining, accounts of history. They prefer queries. Payment is 8 cents a word, up to 2,500 words. A max of $200. They cover &#8220;history, heritage, nostalgia, nature, environment, travel and the arts.&#8221; Amazingly, they still accept handwritten submissions. They pay 10 cents a word. The maximum length is 2,000 words. They &#8220;love word play, and would like to see stories with a literary bent, though decidedly not a pretentious bent.&#8221; They pay at the high end for SF\/F magazines, and 15 cents a word. The maximum length is 3,000 words. They publish fiction, poetry, and articles. They are particularly interested in articles about drinking \u2013 historical, humorous, or instructional. They pay 10 cents a word, up to 4,000 words. They cover the current train industry, as well as stories from the &#8220;colorful past&#8221; of railroads. They are majority freelance written. They pay 10 cents per word. They require queries for feature-length articles. They feature &#8220;the latest news in space exploration and stunning full-color photography.&#8221; They pay 25 cents a word. They prefer queries. Features are 1,200 to 4,000 words. The magazine focuses on marriage and parenting from a &#8220;biblical perspective.&#8221; They generally pay 25 cents per word. Features are up to 1,500 words. They generally pay $1.25 a word. Features are up to 3,000 words in length. They have several departments as well \u2013 it is always a good idea to get published by a department before breaking in to the features. Please query.
