Some deadlines are approaching quickly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Pig\u2019s Back<br><\/strong>This literary magazine opened a short submission window, and closes soon. You can read about them <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepigsback.ie\/about-us\">here<\/a>. They publish fiction and non-fiction by Irish and international writers.<br>Deadline: 30 April 2025<br>Length: 2,000-5,000 words<br>Pay: \u20ac300<br>Details <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepigsback.ie\/submit\">here<\/a>.<strong><br><br>Tractor Beam: The Garden<br><\/strong>This is a new magazine and they accept soilpunk stories. \u201cTractor Beam is a new quarterly speculative and science fiction publication dedicated to soilpunk: radical visions of hopeful futures built from the ground up. Our editorial mandate is to explore audacious and provocative ideas around farming, food, earth science, and beyond, reimagining how humans can live more harmoniously with nature. For our second issue, themed \u201cThe Garden\u201d, we\u2019re seeking original written and graphic works set on a future Earth transformed by new approaches to soil. Literal or abstract, near term or on distant horizons: worlds can take inspiration from innovations or alternative practices in earth and material science, regenerative agriculture, food, microbiology, and more. Query for drama submissions. They also have a weekly online Flash feature called miCRo. See their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cincinnatireview.com\/what-were-looking-for\/\">editors\u2019 preferences<\/a>. They accept online submissions only, except from writers with disabilities or those who are incarcerated. They accept fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. For fiction, they want science fiction, fantasy, myth, legend, fairy tales, and eldritch, in written, podcast, video, and\/or graphic story form. They accept both serious and humorous work. Also see guidelines for the kind of work they\u2019re looking for, hard sells, and what they do not want. They also accept reprints. Their submission period is the 1st-2nd of every month (see guidelines). We do love science fiction, fantasy, intelligent horror, speculative fiction, literary fabulism, magic realism, mythic\/folkloric works, near-future speculations, solarpunk\/cli-fi, hopepunk, and genre subversions (crime, mystery, romance, westerns, thrillers, sea adventures, gothic, and quasi-realist works) that are anchored by some element of the fantastic.\u201d Regarding their reading period, \u201cWe are opening a new, regular open call for fantastical and speculative FLASH FICTION (up to 1,000 words) every first Tuesday and Wednesday of the month. Each open call will be capped at 100 manuscripts.\u201d Their next submission window is in May; they\u2019ve given the open submission periods for flash fiction on their website. For this Winter 2025-26 issue (to be published November), they will only read submissions on the climate crisis theme \u2013 see theme details <a href=\"https:\/\/stingingfly.org\/news\/submission-call-climate-crisis-focus-in-issue-53\/\">here<\/a>. Do not send non-fiction during this window. They also accept translations. We want stories that center science, technology, future projections, and\/or alternate history, and how any or all of these things impact individuals and society.<br>Escape Pod leans in the direction of escapism, hopepunk and optimism rather than grimdark and gloom.\u201d They also accept translations. They are now reading submissions for their special fiction (including flash) and poetry folio, and the theme is \u2018Of the Sea\u2019. \u201cThis August, SUSPECT will publish a special portfolio dedicated to indigenous perspectives on the region designated as maritime Southeast Asia. We invite the submission of fiction and poetry that explore the manifold effects of the sea on individuals and communities.
