A couple of them are for a limited demographic, and one will open soon for a brief period. Also see some themed calls at the end of this list. <strong><br><br>Uncanny<br><\/strong>This award-winning speculative fiction magazine will open soon for a brief submission period, for flash fiction only. Do not send works of other lengths or genres during this submission period. They publish fiction, poetry, essays, articles, artwork, videos, and other contributions, as well as translations. They particularly seek underrepresented voices (see guidelines). They want any genre or between-genre work of literature up to 50 pages in length. They accept short stories, novellas, poetry, and comics.\u00a0They take all genres of fiction, not just pulp \u2013 including fantasy, romance, mystery, literary. They do not publish non-fiction, memoir, or children\u2019s stories. They take more short fiction than novellas, and stories under 5,000 words have the best chance of publication. They also publish reprints. Please note, fiction submission is via a form on their website, which may close temporarily even during open reading periods, if submissions get overwhelming. They accept fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and translations.<br>Deadline: 1 April 2024<br>Length: Up to 30 pages for prose; up to 6 poems<br>Pay: $100 per submission of poetry, $.10\/word for prose up to $200<br>Details <a href=\"https:\/\/westbranchsubmissions.bucknell.edu\/\">here<\/a>.<br><br><strong>Translunar Travelers Lounge<br><\/strong>They want fun speculative fiction; stories must have elements of science fiction or fantasy. \u201cA fun story, at its core, is one that works on the premise that things aren\u2019t all bad; that ultimately, good wins out. This doesn\u2019t necessarily mean that your story has to be silly or lighthearted (though it certainly\u00a0<em>can<\/em>\u00a0be). Joy can be made all the more powerful when juxtaposed against tragedy. In the end, though, there should be hope, and we want stories that are truly fun for as many different kinds of people as possible.<br>Swashbuckling adventure, deadly intrigue, and gleeful romance are some of the most obvious examples of what we\u2019re looking for, but we won\u2019t say no to more subtle or complicated topics, as long as they fit under the wider \u201cfun\u201d umbrella.\u201d Their reading period is 15 March to 15 April 2025. We&#8217;re looking for stories of bad decisions and worse consequences; unlucky losers who can&#8217;t catch a break; grifters and con men convinced they&#8217;re about to score big; good men and women who have very good reasons to do terrible things.\u201d They\u2019ve given a list of stories, as well as TV shows and movies, that match their vibe (see guidelines). And, \u201cWe lean toward noir and realism, so generally speaking we aren\u2019t looking for cozy mysteries, spy thrillers, or for cross-genre work such as mystery-romance, mystery-science fiction, mystery-fantasy, etc.\u201d<br>Deadline: Open now<br>Length: Up to 10,000 words (prefers 2,000-6,000 words)<br>Pay: $125<br>Details <a href=\"https:\/\/coldcallermag.substack.com\/about\">here<\/a>. <strong><br><br>Belanger Books: Sherlock Holmes \u2013 A Year of Mystery 1889 &amp; 1890<br><\/strong>This is a call for fiction for a Sherlock Holmes themed anthology. \u201cWhen I glance over my notes and records of the Sherlock Holmes cases between the years &#8217;82 and &#8217;90, I am faced by so many which present strange and interesting features that it is no easy matter to know which to choose and which to leave.\u201d &#8211; Dr. Watson<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Synopsis: The year 1889 was a particularly busy one for Holmes with a number of cases including The Hound (Sept. 25-Oct. 20); \u201cThe Beryl Coronet\u201d (Feb. 19-20); \u201cThe Man with the Twisted Lip\u201d (June 18-19);\u00a0 \u2026 \u00a0But what other cases did our heroes encounter in these years?
