Some also accept other genres, like non-fiction and poetry. <strong>&#8211; S. Kalekar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tenebrous Press: Skull &amp; Laurel<\/strong><br>While the window for general submissions (for all writers) is now closed, they are still open for submissions by marginalized writers only. Their guidelines say, \u201cThe Skull &amp; Laurel is a quarterly magazine of New Weird short fiction. We are looking for speculative fiction that is genre-fluid and modern in its themes, subtext, characters, techniques, or form. Horror, fantasy, and science fiction stories are welcome so long as they are dark and Weird with a capital W. If your story is speculative and either blends genres or refuses to fit neatly within their confines, we want to read it.\u201d They also accept translations and some reprints (see guidelines\/submission form). The press publishes works of other lengths, too (novels, novellas, and novelettes). They are open now short fiction submissions. They have detailed guidelines, including, \u201cThe Orange &amp; Bee publishes original and contemporary short stories, poems, and essays that explore, expand on, and subvert the rich traditions of international folklore, with a strong focus on fairy tales (though we also sometimes dabble in other forms of folklore, such as fables, myths, and legends). They also accept translations. \u201cWe are seeking horror and weird fiction from 500 to 5,000 words, firm.\u00a0 Query first if your story is over 5,000 words. We are a home for the strange, the macabre, the eerie, the esoteric, the fabulist, and the gothic. The darkly numinous. The odd.\u00a0 We are not interested in extreme horror. Do not send science fiction or fantasy.\u201d Submission is via a form.<br>Deadline: 15 November 2024<br>Length: 500-5,000 words<br>Pay: $0.02\/word, up to $100<br>Details <a href=\"https:\/\/undertowpublications.com\/weird-horror-magazine\">here<\/a>.<strong><br><br>Kaleidotrope<br><\/strong>Their website says, \u201c<a>Kaleidotrope<\/a> publishes predominantly speculative fiction and poetry\u2014science fiction, fantasy, and horror, but also compelling work that blurs the lines between these and falls outside of neat genre categories. They accept fiction during their reading periods, and non-fiction pitches on an ongoing basis. Their <a href=\"https:\/\/tasavvurnama.com\/submissions\/\">Submissions<\/a> page is divided into tabs, please click on the relevant ones to see the kind of work they want and hard passes. About who can submit, they say, \u201cOur definition of South Asia is not restricted to traditional geographical terms and we welcome authors from neighboring regions and diaspora communities to submit too. They have detailed guidelines about the kind of stories they want, including, \u201cCozy horror. Fun horror. Classy horror. Dare we say, wholesome horror? \u2026 perhaps the easiest way to understand what we mean is to read stories by some of the old masters we love: Ray Bradbury, Charles Beaumont, Richard Matheson, Robert Bloch, Roald Dahl. Watch classic episodes of\u00a0<em>Thriller<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Twilight Zone<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>Night Gallery<\/em>. Read old horror comics. Listen to radio dramas like\u00a0<em>Suspense<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Quiet, Please<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>Inner Sanctum Mysteries<\/em>. Consume enough vintage horror, and you\u2019ll probably begin to get an idea of the type of thing that\u2019s likely to appeal to us. \u2026 we\u2019re looking to provide a space for a type of storytelling that has largely gone out of style \u2013 dark and scary, but playful and approachable with an emphasis on plot.\u201d They also publish horror haiku.
