Heartlines Spec<\/strong>
This Canadian magazine of speculative fiction and poetry wants work on long-term relationships; their goal us to publish at least 50% work from Canadian writers for each issue. \u201cWe’re looking for short fiction and poetry focused on long-term relationships: platonic, romantic, or familial. We don’t want the blaze of new love or the obsession of a new friend. We want pieces that show that comfort that develops when people know each other for years.
Give us deep space, dusty frontiers, or dreamy fantasy. We want stories and poetry with strong, confident relationships amid all the sci-fi\/fantasy. (Another Canadian project that is open for submissions now is the Workman Arts Literary Anthology<\/strong><\/a> of fiction and poetry; the theme is rebellion. \u201cWe are calling on Canada-based writers with lived experience of mental health and addiction, to send us your stories, poems, daydreams, imaginings, and manifestos exploring all the things it can mean to rebel.\u201d And, \u201cWe are especially interested in publishing writers who live at the intersection of mental illness and other marginalized identities: queer and trans people, people of colour, people with disabilities, and anyone else who has been systematically excluded from the world of publishing. We would love to prioritize writers who have experienced incarceration in the mental health system and\/or the criminal justice system.\u201d Please note, they will prioritize work by Workman Arts members. Reverent: An Anthology of Divinity
<\/strong>This is a fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry anthology on the Divinity theme. \u201cThis theme is open to interpretation and isn\u2019t limited to only angels (though angel themed submissions are welcome). Where do you see divinity in everyday life? Or what is the divinity that we, as mortals, will never reach? Does divinity exist in every one of us? How beautiful can divinity be, or how horrible?\u201d There is a detailed wishlist of the kinds of work the editor wants, please read it carefully. Also, please note, \u201cThis anthology will have an open call for pitches. During the month of August, writers can submit a pitch (150 words max) alongside a recent writing sample or a writing sample from the pitched work (400 words max) – even if your piece is complete, you will still need to pitch.\u201d
