Youth Today: Up to $2,000 for Articles

Youth Today is a trade newspaper for for people who work with children and youth. Think social works, youth workers, administrators, policy directors, etc. This is one of those publications that I love to learn about: Not only do they pay well, they serve a great audience. If any group of people deserve support and recognition, it is social workers.

They do not list their pay rates directly, but WritingCareer.com reports that they pay between $150 and $2,000 per article, as negotiated between the writer and the editor. These are professional level rates.

If you are an experienced freelance writer and want to cover the field of social work, this could be a great opportunity for you.

According to their website:

“Youth Today covers just about any issue involving youth and the adults who work on their behalf, from direct-care services, health and juvenile justice to government policies and legislation, funding for youth programs and youth development.”

Keep in mind that the focus is not on the kids, it is on the social workers and adults who work with youth. An important distinction. This also means that if you publish an article about a kid for a different publication, you could write it from the adult’s point of view, and send it to Youth Today, getting more value for your work.

The submission’s guideline page clearly lists the types of writing they like to publish. A big favor for writers who want to submit to this newspaper. To learn more be sure to read their submission guidelines.
