These markets pay $50 to $500 for short stories. Some accept other genres too, like non-fiction and poetry. Deadlines are approaching quickly for some of these magazines. – S. Kalekar

PodCastle
They publish fantasy stories in an audio format and online. They are open to all the sub-genres of fantasy, from magical realism to urban fantasy to slipstream to high fantasy, and everything in between. Fantastical or non-real content should be meaningful to the story.

Of Mistletoe and Snow: Love Stories for the Holiday Season
For this fiction anthology their guidelines say, “These stories should tell a tale of love and lovers during the holiday season. This love might be lost, rekindled, or unrequited. Maybe it is the love of a couple celebrating their 50th Christmas together. Perhaps it is the tale of new love taking bloom when the world is dark and frozen. These stories can be contemporary, urban, fantasy, sci-fi, or romance, but they must be written for YA audiences.”

Krampus Tales: A Killer Anthology
They want horror stories in which “the holidays have lost their cheer. Evergreen boughs hang brown and brittle. Sweets taste bitter. The little ones are restless and will not sleep. There’s something stirring in the dark, but only the bravest writers will explore what horrors stalk across the rooftops. It could be a tempestuous ghost seeking its stolen past. Maybe it’s a malevolent shadow come for its sworn promises. Krampus might be lying in wait for his chance to punish the wicked children. The only way to find out is to brave the dark and tell the story of what you find.”

The Evil Cookie Publishing: Bludgeon Tools – Tool Infused Splatterpunk Anthology 
They publish horror anthologies and their tagline is ‘Anthologies with All the Guts n’ Gory’. For the forthcoming anthology their guidelines say, “Bludgeon Tools, inc. will be expanding their sales and distribution lines. The company will be accepting applications for employment and looking for creative employees with excellent customer service.” Stories must have elements of splatterpunk.

Catapult
Catapult is seeking short fiction. Their guidelines say. “We welcome short stories, novel excerpts that stand on their own, and translated fiction. We pay for all pieces that we publish. While we publish pieces that are anywhere from 500 to 6000 words long, a typical piece has around 2500 words.”

One Story
They recently opened their submission period. They publish one literary fiction story per issue, which can be of any style and on any subject. Their guidelines say, “We are looking for stories that leave readers feeling satisfied and are strong enough to stand alone.” Regarding reprints, if a story has been published in print (not online) outside of North America, it will be considered. They also accept translations.

They want fiction work with speculative elements – science fiction, fantasy, and horror (they don’t want erotica or splatterpunk).

Scarlet
Scarlet is the literary blog of Jaded Iris Press, a feminist press committed to publishing socially engaged literature with an emphasis on the voices of people of color, people with disabilities, and other historically silenced and culturally marginalized voices. They publish fiction, creative non-fiction, essays, and poetry. They usually have reading periods but due to the current crisis, have decided to keep their submission period open year round.
