Cultures & Cuisines is accepting article submissions for pieces that discuss food and travel. In their words, they publish “ informed, intelligent, well-written narratives about the places, both literal and imaginary, where food and travel meet.”
They’re looking for evocative, narrative-minded essays that include research or reporting. Many stylistic elements are flexible: the voice can be first or third person, the essay can challenge or break conventional style, and there are no minimum or maximum word counts.
On their submissions page, they’ve included a list of topics that they’d like to see writers cover. They’re also looking for “unforgettable essays and longform about holidays, celebrations, festivals, and other food-related traditions.” It’s a plus if the traditions are not well known in the U.S.
They’ve also posted a list of what they’re not looking for. These include chef profiles, restaurant reviews, and trend pieces.
They’re open to publishing emerging writers, and as such, they don’t require clips. They simply want pitches that revolve around the intersection of food and culture.
Payment is $200 per article, and this rate is nonnegotiable.
