iGeneration Youth is a “for youth, by youth” online and print magazine. They are always looking for smart-thinking teens for brilliant storytelling. Their features are 900 to 1,200 words and shorter stories are 250 to 500 words. They pay $0.05 per word. To learn more, refer to their submission guidelines and this page. UploadVR is a news organization that offers news, original articles, guides, reviews, and interviews on Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). According to their senior editor, their rates vary a lot based on the assignment but they usually pay $125 per 800 words. To contact them, refer to this page.

Contently is “a technology company that helps brands create great content at scale.” To help freelancers during the coronavirus pandemic, they have decided to frontload their freelance content budget for The Content Strategist (Contently’s publication about content strategy and content marketing). This will allow them to accept more freelance work. They will pay a flat rate of $500 for a story. They will pay $300 for Q&As (published occasionally). For details, visit this page.

Increment is a quarterly “print and digital magazine about how teams build and operate software systems at scale.” Each issue of the magazine focuses on a new theme. They welcome pitches from writers. Right now, they are especially interested in APIs. According to one payment report, they paid $1.00 per word for a 3,000-word piece. Read their Tweet here. Chaos+Comrades is “a publication run by minorities who seek to break down identities by fostering unity and understanding through multimedia storytelling.” They are seeking POC or queer doctors/nurses to write a first-person essay about the COVID-19 pandemic. The Media Co-op is “a coast-to-coast network of local media co-operatives dedicated to providing grassroots, democratic coverage of their communities and of Canada.” They are “interested in everything from rent strikes & community responses, to what’s happening at man camps, to landback, & more.” They pay $100 to $200 for articles and other media (e.g. audio and video reports).  The Christian Courier is a bi-weekly publication that speaks from a Reformed perspective (although writers do not need to be Reformed). They describe their content as “an eclectic boutique of styles, opinions and flavors,” and it falls under three categories: News, Opinion, and Features. They pay $40-$70, depending on length. The War Cry is the magazine published by the Salvation Army. They’ve been around a whopping 135 years. They accept submissions from freelance writers. They pay $0.35 per word for original articles, and $0.15 a word for reprints. They’ve recently published articles around 1,000 words.
