Fanbyte covers gaming, technology, and entertainment. According to their managing editor, “we’re often very choosy about essay/feature pitches, but I’m always looking for more reviewers and guide writers in particular.” They pay $100 for simple listicles, $150 for essays, reviews, and basic guides, and $200 for features. Teachers & Writers Magazine is “published by Teachers & Writers Collaborative to provide resources and inspiration in support of our stated mission: teaching creative writing and educating the imagination.” They are looking for the following type of articles: Favorite Classroom Writing Prompts ($75 for 500-750 words), Narrative Lesson Plans ($100 for 750-2,000 words), The Art of Teaching Writing ($150 for 1,000+ words), Interviews ($150-$350 for 1,000-2,500 words), Profiles ($150 for 1,000-2,500 words), Redefining the Canon ($150 for 1,000-2,500 words), and Essays and Editorial Responses ($150 for 1,000-2,000 words). The New Modality is “a new publication and community about experiments in culture.” They cover art, culture, science, spirituality, sexuality, technology, business, philanthropy, society, and more. They ask contributors to specify in the pitch whether they would like to be considered for their honorarium rate or their professional rate. Their honorarium rate is $100 per piece. Their professional rate for a reported non-fiction piece is 50 cents per word. Their rate for professional science fiction and fantasy writers is $100 or 15 cents per word, whichever is higher. DJ Mag is a British monthly magazine and website about electronic dance music and DJs. According to their features editor, “in 2020, across print and digital, we’re looking to publish longform features that are ideally not centered around one artist.” “This can be a focus on an emerging sound, a reportage deep-dive into a subject surrounding dance music, culture and technology, or an opinion piece on a timely (and potentially divisive) talking point.” They pay 20p a word for longform features.
