The following is a list of 5 magazines that pay writers $500 per article. I’ve hunted down the submission guidelines pages for all of these magazines. Payment information is included. Keep in mind that it may have changed, or may still need to be negotiated.

1. The New Haven Review was founded to be a resuscitate the art of the book review. They prefer to publish writers with any connection (at all) to the New Haven region, but accept work from writers around the world. They pay a minimum of $500 for prose, and at least $25 per poem. 2. American Hunter is the official magazine of the National Rifle Association. They pay $900 for department articles, up to $1,500 for feature articles, and $500 to $1,000 for shorter articles. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.
3. Northern Virginia Magazine publishes profiles of the region’s most prominent figures, articles about regional businesses, education, getaways, and more. Send a query only. They pay $50 to $1,000. They work around 3.5 months in advance. To learn more, read their submission guidelines.
4. Sojourns is a regional magazine, published by the Peaks, Plateaus & Canyons Association (PPCA) of the Colorado Plateau. They are a collective of local nonprofit and educational organizations. They publish “thoughtful, passionate, and fair-minded discourse on subjects and issues of relevance to its geographic region. ” They pay $500 to $1,200 per article. Query first. 5. FamilyFun is a national magazine for families with children 3 to 12. They are the “the trusted experts on family cooking, vacations, parties, holidays, crafts, and learning.” They pay $1.25 per word for features, $750 for the “Idea of the Month” and $100 for other departments.
