BuzzFeed News is a news website by BuzzFeed. Their tech desk editor is seeking Gen Z-related tech pitches. They pay $0.33 per word for essays and $0.50 per word for reported pieces. Rest of World is a global nonprofit publication that covers technology’s impact beyond the Western bubble. Their China editor is seeking news stories (800 to 1,000 words); insightful reports (1,000 to 2,000 words); and bold ideas (600 to 1,200 words) on the human-level impact of technology in China. They prioritize local voices. They pay $500 for news stories, $750 for reports, and $500 to $750 for ideas. Send your pitches to yll@restofworld.org. Poynter is a school that teaches and inspires journalists and media leaders. They’re accepting pitches for pieces on LGBTQ+ issues in journalism. Good Beer Hunting produces “strategic beer brands, intellectually honest editorial, beverage industry analysis, and a deep-dive podcast.” Their news editor has tweeted, “Are you a freelance writer based in or around WA, MI, TN, IA, OH, or British Columbia? Dazed is a British style magazine and an online platform that covers music, film, TV, fashion, culture, science, technology, and more. Their features editor is looking for pitches, especially on internet culture and music. Their features editor hasn’t mentioned the rates in their tweet, but according to an old tweet by one of their editors, rates start at £150 for features. Remezcla is an independent media brand that covers emerging Latin music, entertainment, and culture. The Gutter Review is a queer owned non-profit website that offers unique perspectives (through long-form essays and interviews) on lesser-known, forgotten, and unsung comics and visual media. They’re accepting pitches. They publish essays and opinion pieces, theories and discussions, and long-form interviews. The pieces range from 1,500 to 6,000 words. Pay is $150 per essay. SheKnows empowers women through discussions and articles related to women’s issues including health, relationships, sex, parenting, and beauty. Their health/sex editor is seeking sex and relationship essays: “I particularly love stuff that intersects with health, bodies, mental health, etc. But a good love story never hurts either.” Pay starts at $175. Business Insider covers business, financial, and technology news. Their senior editor of freelancers has tweeted, “Journalism layoffs suck, especially at publications I love reading. I really wish I could do more to help. I’m always looking for writers who want to freelance for our business section — we’re open to a variety of story ideas.” Rates begin at $300. Being Patient is an online community for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients and caregivers. They’re open to pitches for “Diversity & Dementia” series. They’re seeking “pitches for profiles on inspiring people of color who are working to make a difference in the lives of people with Alzheimers / dementia (through research, advocacy, community organizing, etc).” They will pay $250 per piece (800-1,200 words). Passionfruit is the Daily Dot’s creator economy newsletter. They’re looking for new writers. Well+Good covers fitness, cutting-edge nutrition, natural beauty, travel, and more. Their deputy editor has tweeted, “Got a big climate story you want to tell tied to well-being? The Fence is a London-based independent quarterly magazine that ships internationally but focuses around life in the United Kingdom and Ireland. They’re open for pitches. Their editor has tweeted, “We’re a quarterly mag so we’re not into headline-chasing topical takes, but we do love personal stories and unreported scoops. This time out we’d like more on music, fashion and local scenes.” According to a previous tweet by this editor, they pay £150-£250 per story (1,000-1,500 words) for the Facts section. Elite Daily is an online news platform for millennials. Their dating editor has tweeted, “Writers: Is there a TikTok dating trend you’ve been wanting to try? Fun, quirky, messy — let’s hear it!” The editor hasn’t mentioned the rates in her tweet, but according to their senior entertainment editor, rates start at $250. Mirror Gaming is a source for the latest gaming news, reviews, guides, and deals. Their senior content creator is looking for UK gaming freelancers who can do news shifts (Monday to Friday, 9 to 5). Rate is £125 per day. They’re also seeking pitches (for features, reviews, guides, and more) around big, upcoming games. Rate is £125 for daily news. Rate for one off pitches is higher. Healthline is a health information website. They’re seeking health and wellness writers who can tackle general health and wellness topics (condition overviews, symptom identification, tips for prevention, etc.). Average rate is $200 for about 1,000 words. No pitches required. All assignments will include a detailed outline. Insider is a global news publication. Their senior editor is “looking for someone to write a reported personal essay on the fresh hell that is summer camp registration this year (and every year? The Revealer is an online magazine (by NYU’s Center for Religion and Media) about religion, media, and society. They’re accepting pitches from writers and scholars on “religion + society or religion + media.” They publish several types of articles: feature articles (originally researched/reported pieces), perspective pieces, and shows/films/books reviews. Wired is a magazine and website that covers the current and future trends in technology. Their editor would love to hear pitches for stories from anywhere, but especially Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Their web freelance rates begin at $500. As Equals is a series by CNN about systemic gender inequality. They are looking for pitches for a new series that they are calling Stories from the Margins. They want “stories that reveal, explain, or investigate some facet of what it’s like to belong to certain categories of women whose stories remain largely out of view.” These include (but are not limited to) sex workers, domestic workers, undocumented women, older women (45+), trans women, non-binary people, women from religious minorities, religious women defying the mainstream narratives, disabled women, and indigenous women. They will strongly prefer pitches for stories from the global south. They will pay journalists a day rate of $350. Each story will be around 2,000 words. ASEF culture360 is an online platform managed by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF). They cover arts, culture, and heritage of 51 countries from Asia and Europe. They are seeking writers (remote) to produce features and interviews for their website. They will pay 200 Singapore Dollars per commissioned article (800-1,000 words).
