The following is a list of calls for pitches directly from editors and publishers.

Reset-Dialogues on Civilizations (Reset DOC) is a global think tank that promotes “knowledge, dialogue and understanding among cultures.” They are looking for article proposals from journalists and/or researchers. They encourage submissions from contributors who are young and from underrepresented backgrounds. Their basic rate is €50 per piece. Pitch your stories to info@resetdoc.org. Faithfully Magazine is a news and culture publication that amplifies Christian communities of color. They are looking for lifestyle and beauty writers for critical takes on products. They pay $50 to $100 per piece. To learn more, refer to their Tweet and submissions guide.

HelloGiggles is “a positive online community for female-identifying readers.” Their senior beauty & fashion editor is seeking “people with melasma, psoriasis, or dry skin to write about their skincare routines for HelloGiggles in October/November.” According to payment reports, they pay an average of $0.05 per word. SitePoint is a resource geared at web professionals. They are “looking for freelance writers to cover development and design, but also computing power user and knowledge tool topics broadly.” They generally pay $100 to $300 per article. Broccoli is a print magazine for cannabis lovers. The magazine is created by an all-women team and published 3 times a year. They are “looking for short weedy fairy tales, cannabis stories from outside North American, first-person essays on the intersection of weed and disability, and conversations/profiles of interesting creative folks.” They usually pay $0.40 to $0.50 per word. Black Youth Project focuses on the thoughts and actions of Black millennials. They have tweeted, “Our theme this month is sexual health & wellness. What might an expansive exploration of queer sex and/or intimacy look like?” Pay is $100 per original piece (800+ words). Send pitches to info@blackyouthproject@gmail.com. Autostraddle is an online sphere for lesbian, bisexual, and queer women. For Latinx Heritage Month, they are looking for personal essays, cultural criticism, reported pieces, and more on the theme of death and rebirth. Scouted is a shopping and product recommendations vertical from the Daily Beast. They are looking for pitches. From September through December, they are seeking first person reviews of around 400 words on the following categories: home, food and beverage, and sexual wellness products. They are also seeking more seasonal pitches for first person reviews on the following categories: clothing/shoes, travel, holiday, and health. They are scaling back their “roundup-style gift guides in favor of Gift Picks, a curated single product that makes a perfect gift.” Rate for reviews and roundups is $100 to $150 and for new gift guides, it is $200. Well+Good covers fitness, cutting-edge nutrition, natural beauty, travel, and more. Their managing editor has tweeted, “Are you someone that will be particularly impacted by this year’s election? Do you want to write about why that is and how it impacts your voting? (Think: caregiver, hospital workers, DACA recipient, etc.).” Rates start at $200. Send pitches to samantha.leal@wellandgood.com. Repeller is “a unique media brand with an approach to storytelling that transforms online interaction into something less fleeting and more genuine.” Their senior editor wants writers to pitch them “stories including but not limited to: Cardi B entering her power and leaving what’s his name behind, Kim K’s shapewear line, Indigenous perspectives on CA wildfires, apocalyptic visions, etc.” Their base rate is $250. Adoptive Families: This digital magazine is an information resource for parents before, during, and after adoption. They provide adoption parenting advice and real families’ stories. They accept both personal essays and reported articles; for reported articles, they prefer queries. According to their Media Kit, for November 2020, the themes are Celebrate adoption + Foster adoption; for December, they are Rituals & Celebrations + Annual gift guide. Telegraph Travel: The editor recently announced a call for pitches on Twitter for expert, timeless pieces on Australia, for Telegraph Travel UK; ideally fresh angles on areas they haven’t covered before. Pay is 25p/word.  Details here (Twitter call) and here (home page).

Desoto Magazine: This monthly upscale lifestyles magazine is focused on stories about life in Mississippi, Memphis and the Mid-South. They accept pitches for articles about people, cuisine, history, southern culture, human interest, travel, gardening, health and the arts. Rates are $50 for On the Road, $100 for essays and In Good Spirits, $175 for most departments, and to $240 for features. They are reading for their December issue, on the Holiday Wishes & More theme. They are seeking “strong, moving first person reads of love, lust and loss.” According to one payment report, they paid £100 per 1,000 words for an online article. According to their editor, they pay £120 to £200 for interviews and profiles, they pay more for a cover feature. They pay £225 and up for larger pieces.
