Please do not contact any of these editors without carefully studying their publication to make sure that you’re sending a pitch that closely fits their needs. If too many people send bad pitches, editors are likely to no longer openly solicit pitches. So, please do your part and only contact an editor after doing your due diligence.

Glamour is an online magazine for women. Their editor is looking for brilliant, feministy pitches (both evergreen and hooked to current affairs). Alliance Magazine is a quarterly philanthropy magazine. Fast Company is a progressive business media brand that focuses on innovation in technology, design, leadership, and ethonomics (ethical economics). Opportunity to Write Mini Essays about your Experience Working as a Writer: “I’m looking for brilliantly written, compelling personal essays of about 300 words (2,000 characters max) shedding light on writing for a living that will inspire my audience.” Rate is $100 per essay. Youth Today is an independent media publisher that covers issues related to youth development, adolescent health, juvenile justice, education, and more. They are seeking freelance reporters anywhere in the US who can cover “climate change, child welfare, juvenile justice, disability justice, education, social work & more.” They will pay $1 per word. An editor at KCET.org is seeking SoCal based or focused journalists to cover the mid-term elections in November. They are assigning around 5 articles, and are looking for multiple writers. Topics range from state-wide ballot measures (California propositions) to issues on local ballots, voter guides (including for first-time voters), and other issues to help simplify the voting process for Southern Californians. Open to unique pitches as well, but no op-eds or personal essays and nothing that’s been published elsewhere. MIT Technology Review is a media company that explains the commercial, political, and social impact of the newest technologies. Their editor is building up their network of physical science writers. If you write about “physics, space, materials science, computing, defense tech, etc.”, then get in touch with their editor at rachel.courtland@technologyreview.com. Rates range from $1 to $2 a word. Sapling and PocketSense are finance websites. They are looking for finance freelance writers who ideally fit the criteria below:

• Hold an MBA degree or a CPA license
• Have worked as tax analyst/tax preparer, licensed insurance agent, bookkeeper, or something similar
• Have financial writing clips that they can share
• Bonus criteria: Have experience with Clearscope

They are seeking someone fluent in Vietnamese as well as English to craft a compelling interview of a ceramicist. They will pay at least $0.50 per word. Xtra is a Toronto-based digital magazine and community platform that covers LGBTQ2 news, politics, culture, sex, love, and health. They are accepting pitches for a package about climate and LGBTQ2S+ issues. They are open to anything (e.g. essays, features, Q&As, opinion pieces, and service pieces) that “broadly reflects a queer/trans lens on the climate crisis and environmental issues.” They are open to writers as well as stories outside of Canada. Gokhshtein Media offers news and information about blockchain technology. They are looking to add to their stable of writers. They want writers who have a strong understanding of crypto/Web3. Lonely Planet offers travel guides and information. They are commissioning a guidebook for Costa Rica and are looking to expand their pool of expert contributors. The contributors should ideally be living in Costa Rica or have traveled through the country extensively in the last 18 months. They will pay at least 1,500. Feminist Food Journal is “an online magazine dedicated to a feminist food future.” They are open for pitches for their Earth issue which is focused on “gender and all things related to our earth home – climate change, farming, foraging, and more.” They will pay a flat rate of $130 per piece. Narratively is a media company that publishes original and untold human stories. Their deputy editor is “assigning and editing a series about TURNING FAILURE ON ITS HEAD, i.e., times when failure in one area turned out to be positive in another, or when failure taught you an important lesson that helped shape you.” They only publish nonfiction.
