The Fiddlehead
This Canadian magazine is open to writing and translations into English from all over the world and in a variety of styles, including experimental genres. They read short fiction, excerpts from novels, creative nonfiction, and poetry. The deadline is for Submittable submissions only – mailed submissions are accepted all year round.

The Antioch Review
The editors want “a story worthy of the serious attention of the intelligent reader, a story that is compelling, written with distinction.” They rarely publish translations of well-known or new foreign writers. They publish a chapter of a novel, but only if it can be read complete in itself as a short story. They also accept nonfiction and poetry (no “light” or inspirational poetry). They accept mailed submissions only.    
Deadline: 30 April for poetry, 31 May 2020 for prose (postmarked)
Length: Up to 5,000 words preferred for prose, up to 8,000 at most; 3-6 poems

Escape Artists: Pseudopod
This is an online publishing and audio market for horror fiction – “dark, weird fiction. We run the spectrum from grim realism or crime drama, to magic-realism, to blatantly supernatural dark fantasy. We publish highly literary stories reminiscent of Poe or Lovecraft as well as vulgar shock-value pulp fiction”, according to guidelines. They have opened a submission call for reprints only. The call is open to both publishers who have printed horror, and to authors who have written and published the stories for anthologies and collections. They will pay reprint rates for this call.

Metaphorosis Magazine
This magazine wants beautiful writing showing engaging characters in a science fiction or fantasy universe. Writers will get bonus points of their world is vegan. They also accept translations.

Planet
This Welsh magazine was established with the aim of creating a forum for debate about Wales in English, as well as encouraging a dialogue between English-speaking Wales and Welsh-speaking Wales. They publish unsolicited fiction and poetry. They also accept pitches for articles. Their guidelines also say, “We are particularly interested in seeing work that connects in some way with the broad range of issues and concerns of the magazine.”

Length: 1,500-2,500 words for fiction in the print magazine; 4-6 poems; 600-1,000 words for online material

Aggregate
They are always looking for quality fiction for their anthology of short stories. They want solid, creative short stories. Their guidelines say, “We tend toward science fiction and horror, but prefer to think of genre as a loose categorization at best. Experimental fiction is welcomed, and even strongly encouraged. Strong consideration will be given to stories that explore the sociological and psychological. We’re not particularly concerned about the location or time in which the story takes place, or the use of supernatural or non-supernatural elements.” There is no deadline – as soon as they finish work for one anthology, they start selecting stories for the next one. The journal is based in Canada; they accept submissions from all over the world, and pay in US dollars.
