Highlights for Children is a magazine for kids up to age 12. They accept submissions from freelance writers. Categories include fiction, non-fiction, puzzles, crafts, and “finger plays.”

According to their website: “In every 40-page issue, kids explore new topics, investigate cool subjects and find out about the world. Highlights magazine for kids is filled with stories, games, puzzles, riddles, science experiments, craft projects and interactive entertainment!”

They pay $150 and up for short stories.

They accept submissions on a continuous basis. Writers must be 16 or older to be paid.  Their contract is not particularly writer friendly — they “buy all rights, including copyright.”
