Hawaii Magazine is a bimonthly travel magazine all about the Hawaiian islands. It is written for people who “love Hawaii and visit often, but who primarily reside outside of Hawaii.”
They accept submissions from freelance writers. They pay up to $2,000 for feature articles. Short features, regular departments, and columns pay between $250 and $600.
Originally published out of California, they moved to their home-base to Hawaii in 2006.
According to their website:
“HAWAII uses freelance writers on a wide variety of subjects, including travel stories, personality profiles, stories on activities, history, culture, music, food and environmental sustainability. All stories must be related to Hawai’i, though we do consider stories about Hawaii-related events on the Mainland.”
Their submission guidelines page has details about how to submit. Writers are encouraged to submit samples, as well as queries/pitches, to the editor. They also accept submission of photographs.
